Gilberto Perez Life Story

Gilberto Benito Perez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, departed from this world on March 18, 2024, in The Colony, Texas. Born on February 3, 1938, in Cuba, Gilberto was the cherished son of Maria Castellon and Benito Perez.

In his early years in Cuba, Gilberto dedicated himself to farming, embodying the values of hard work and dedication to his craft. In November of 1968, he embarked on a new chapter in his life, immigrating to the United States in pursuit of opportunity and a better life for his family. He began his American journey working for Coca Cola before finding his niche as a forklift operator at Tom Thumb, where he dedicated himself tirelessly for the remainder of his career.

Gilberto's life was richly adorned by his union with his beloved wife, Zoraida Perez, with whom he shared 66 remarkable years of marriage. Together, they built a legacy of love, resilience, and familial devotion. Gilberto was the proud father of four children, the adoring grandfather of seven grandchildren, and the joyful great-grandfather of seven great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply. To his grandchildren, he was affectionately known as "Papá," a title that reflected the warmth and love he showered upon them.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Gilberto found solace and joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and tranquility on the shores of Lake Lewisville. Gilberto's passion for his Cuban heritage shone brightly through his mastery of crafting the perfect cup of Cuban coffee, a skill he delighted in sharing with those around him. He was a man who found joy in the company of his family, especially during gatherings for his legendary pig roasts, where laughter and love flowed freely.

Gilberto's allegiance to his adopted home state of Texas was evident in his unwavering support for the Texas Rangers, cheering them on with fervor through every victory and defeat. Yet, above all, his heart belonged to his family, and his greatest joy was found in their presence.

In the wake of Gilberto's passing, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering dedication to family that will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his presence.

He is survived by his wife; his daughters, Dee Gonzales (her husband Daniel), and Ana Price (her wife Amy Barnes); his sons, Gilbert Perez (his wife Connie), and William Perez; his grandchildren, Jason Gonzales, Brittani Gonzales, Lori Stowell, Andrea Perez, Gabby Perez, Lexie Perez and Laura Royal.; his great-grandchildren, Kaiden Gonzales, Bella Gonzales, Savvy Gonzales, Bexley Gonzales, Aiden Walker, Emersyn Walker, and Evie Stowell.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Aurelio Perez; his sister, Carmen Perez; and his parents.

May Gilberto Benito Perez rest in eternal peace, his spirit forever cherished and his love everlasting.
